6 Reasons I Personally Buy Fine Art Prints
My friend, Caitlyn and I teamed up to bring you this blog post with all the reasons why we LOVE fine art prints. Caitlyn and I have been working together a lot these past few months as we are both getting ready to open our online print shops by the end of the month (YAY!!!). Not only are we both artists, but we are also art collectors. We love buying art from other artists! The world of e-commerce has exposed us to so many artists we wouldn’t have otherwise met (like each other!!) and has given us an easy way to bring other’s art into our homes.
Today, we are sharing a list we compiled of why fine art prints are so stinkin’ awesome and why we are low key obsessed with them! We also created some free resources for you to take advantage of. Click the links below to get them sent to your inbox so you can download and keep them for future reference.

Okay, let’s get started! Here’s why we love prints:
VERSATILITY
The versatility of art prints is pretty great. You usually have to be pretty lucky to find an original piece of art that is both available and the perfect size for your space. With art prints, there are usually different size options to fit both your space and your budget.
AFFORDABILITY
While I would say err on the side of caution for CHEAP prints (less than $20), high quality fine art prints can be very affordable compared to original pieces. Personally, if I had $500 to spend on new artwork in a year, I would prefer to purchase 5-7 high quality prints rather than one original piece. Maybe one day that will change, but right now prints are more accessible to me. It is also an easy and beautiful way to support more small business that I love.
SUPERIOR QUALITY
The quality of fine art prints is SO much better than it used to be. Printing technology has really advanced and giclée printing is gaining popularity. Giclée refers to the process used in printing, meaning “to spray”. In the world of fine art, this means to spray ink on a substrate (canvas or paper). There are many benefits to this type of printing but the key ones are: greater color range (you get a print that looks essentially identical to the original), archival quality (is guaranteed to last at LEAST 100 years), and the ability to print on multiple materials (like canvas!).
ENDLESS FRAMING OPTIONS
Framing options for prints are endless. In my experience, art can be adapted to fit so many styles and environments with simple display and framing changes. This means, as your home grows and changes it is easy to update your art to grow with you. Be sure to check out “The Complete Framing Guide” linked at the top and download for future reference!
AN ARTIST’S TOUCH
While it is not the same as an original piece of art, buying giclée prints from artists still has a personal touch with a LOT of intention behind it. These prints are handled with so much love and care, just like a real piece of fine art. As we have both figured out over the past several months, there is a lengthy process behind making a high-quality print. There is a very careful process behind photographing your art for printing purposes along with post-production editing to ensure colour accuracy. Finally, there is the process of printing and presenting the final product. All in all, it truly is a work of art… it’s not JUST a print.
EASY SHIPPING
I love that I don’t have to break the bank to get a piece of fine art shipped to its home. Most of the artists I love are either overseas or across the country. If I wanted to buy an original piece of art from them, I can expect to pay a good amount on shipping… sometimes even more than what the actual painting costs. With prints, they are easy and affordable to package and ship, and bigger sizes can be rolled into a tube to save on costs as well. They are also light in weight- another great shipping cost saver!
